5 IKEA Alternatives to Furnish Your First Home

shop ikeaWhen trying to find an affordable place to buy furniture for your first home, the most prominent answer that seems to pop up is IKEA. It is a store that cuts down on costs because you end up shipping and building the furniture yourself. You could easily pay for IKEA to ship it for you (they use a local company in your area to do so), and finding professionals on Craigslist that will assemble your IKEA purchases for you is only a quick search away. The cost of that, however, adds up quickly, to the point that you could have purchased assembled furniture from another store, most likely getting shipping for cheap as a part of some promotion.

If you would rather look elsewhere for an affordable way to furnish your new home, look no further than these examples.

1: CB2

This store features lots of beautiful, unique, and modern pieces to compliment your new home. It is easy to see here, however, that they have some very expensive items. The real deal here is shopping from their “on sale” section, which features prices, such as sectionals, to be a few hundred dollars cheaper than most sectionals you find at IKEA. Although, some furniture here, such as their dressers, requires assembly. Though you may end up looking at this store as just another IKEA store, in reality you are going to get much better looking furniture. If you want cheap furniture that doesn’t scream “I came from IKEA!,” then CB2 may just be the store you are looking for.

2: Scandinavian Designs

This website is a real treat to explore, featuring tastefully classic items, and modern delights such as their Annua Standing Work Desk. Featuring prices that are competitive with the other stores listed here, and having a style uniquely original to their store, your new dining table or night stand could be waiting for you on their site.

3: Blu Dot

Blu Dot may be familiar to Target power shoppers, since this company makes a line specific for Target. Their main site, however, has a wider variety of furnishings for your new home. For example, this chair is one of their best selling items. The designs here are sharp contrast to other stores, but if you are a unique person looking for furniture that no one else has, and for cheap, then look no further than Blu Dot.

4: All Modern

If none of these IKEA alternatives were modern enough for you, then this store will fill your niche of extreme modern necessities. Are you so modern that concrete art just doesn’t speak to you, since so much is work is already done for the viewer? Then All Modern will solve that for you with their abstract series of art prints to eschew that modern sensibility that oils every joint in your body. Go ahead, look at their Earthy Dots print and instantly fall in love with this abstract color pallet of Earth; you can even hang it in any direction you want!

5: Shop Local

All of the above stores are online, but some shoppers may not want to buy furniture unless they can see it in person. Since we live in Colorado, we have a myriad of options that can satisfy the need to buy quality inexpensive furniture. Furniture Row and their stores, especially during sales, have very competitive prices. Surprisingly though, you can find excellent furniture on Craigslist if you don’t mind it being used, and by utilizing Yelp, you can see that lots of stores exist here that might just have what you’re looking for.
